I greatly appreciate Donald Shoemaker's new edition of Juvenile Delinquency. The focus on theories of delinquency are especially welcome; not only providing excellent information as it pertains to juvenile delinquency, but also serving as an excellent introduction (or reinforcement, depending on the student) to criminological theories in general. The examples throughout the text are relevant and fresh, and I would definitely assign this text for my undergraduate juvenile justice course.

About the Author
Donald J. Shoemaker is professor of sociology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He received the PhD in sociology from the University of Georgia in 1970. His research interests include national and international topics. Most of his international work has been conducted in the Philippines, but current interests include other countries, such as Sri Lanka. Recent publications include the sixth edition of Theories of Delinquency: An Examination of Explanations of Delinquent Behavior.

Excellent read

This book answered a lot of questions about the process and procedures of the juvenile system. Additionally, it allowed me a greater understanding of how juveniles think and react.
