About the Author
Gloria M. Buono, the author and illustrator, spent over 15 years as a marketing professional in the magazine publishing industry with many of the country's largest and prestigious publishers. She remains well connected in the industry and is a board member of WDMI (Women in Direct Marketing International, NY Chapter). She has been doing various free-lance assignments and has also been a substitute teacher in the Yonkers, NY school system. Three things inspired her to write this book: 1) after viewing a 1961 academy award winning motion picture, The Day of the Painter, produced by the late Ezra R. Baker; 2) visiting MOMA (Museum of Modern Art in New York City); and 3) watching street dancers in Manhattan. She lives in Westchester County. This is her first book.

Twelve-year old Katrina's hair flowed just past her shoulders in wheat-colored waves. She was watering her garden, her favorite outdoor chose. She loved seeing her flowers grow -- large yellow daffodils, red and pink roses, and pink and violed petunias. Lofty lilac shrubs cast a long shadow, and blue morning glories dotted the white wooden fence.

Amateurish writing and illustrations

I'm not sure why this book has received such good reviews. I bought it for my daughter based on the subject matter and reviews. It is not very well-written and the illustrations are very poor. They seem as though they were created in MS Paint. The fact that the book is about painting and the pictures are all black and white is disappointing. This book seems like something someone might create in a adult education creative writing course.
My daughter loves dancing and painting and she didn't care for this book.

THE PAINTING BALLERINA combines humor with fantasy with dreams coming true. An animator should pick up this book. It's perfect for a short children's film.
