This isn't really what I expected it to be. Unfortunately, a lot of the preview shown on Amazon includes the blank practice pages, so it was hard to tell what the actual content would be before buying. I found that it covered mostly making backgrounds with paint and ink, and not a lot of mixed media and collage as the title suggests.
The whole first chapter is about testing your pens, pencils watercolors, etc, to see what color they will look on the paper. That's a nice tip, but not a collage technique.
Next you go through a bunch of background techniques on different kinds of paper: Plastic wrap "smooshing" backgrounds, bubble wrap stamp backgrounds, paint on paper towels, paint on tissue paper, paint on textured wallpaper, squirting paint on paper, scraping paint on with a credit card, toning down the paint with gesso, a second lesson on squirting paint, masking tape resist, masking fluid resist, 2 lessons on inkblots, creating printing blocks or stamps, & transferring an image from a transparency.
There's one page on tissue paper collage.
Chapter 4 is on making a collaborative, round robin journal.
There's also half a page on mail art and Artist Trading Cards (no pictures for those).
Chapter 5, binding techniques if you want to make your own journals.
Chapter 6, charm necklaces, wall hangings, and a pillow. Not really sure why we need those.

Much of the same ...

Seems like all the current books on art journalism are running neck to neck on information. This volume is much the same.
Nothing shaking or new. Well presented, good inspiration. Price is good, and with prime shipping is always free.

Good info but too many "practice" pages

The information in the book was great. I learned new techniques for my artwork. However, I don't like (or need) practice pages. I have paper for practice and those pages could have held more tips and techniques.
